Jobs for 13 Year Olds: 9 Ways to Make Extra Money for the Holidays

Monday, December 2nd, 2013

Hiya Teens!

Are you looking for ways to make extra money for the holidays?

Check out these quick jobs for 13 year olds to make money online in your spare time….

Here’s 9 ways to put some cash in your pocket:

1) Surveys & Trial Offers You can fill out surveys or trial offers on sites like FusionCash or CashCrate. When I was using Fusion Cash on a daily basis back in 2007, I made $134.50 in three weeks.

2) Sell on Craigslist. Pick out 10 to 20 items around your house that you can sell for $5.00 or more, and start listing them on Craigslist. It’s free to list stuff for sale, and they give you up to four photos to upload for free. I highly recommend putting photos in your listing. Two years ago, my wife and I sold a ton of furniture and home accessories all on Craigslist, because we didn’t want to move a bunch of stuff that we weren’t in love with.

3) Resell on eBay. This is a little risky, but I saw that Wal-Mart is selling a playstation 3 for $399 plus a $100 gift card with the purchase. If you bought the playstation, resold it on ebay, you’d only be out the tax. You would have a $100 gift card to spend on gifts at Wal-Mart. Be careful on this one. Only buy something that you know you can resell for the same amount of money.

4) Do Some Odd Jobs. Do your parents’ own a carpet cleaner? Print out fifty fliers and stick them in the doors around your neighborhood. If you get five jobs out of it, you’ll make a few hundreds bucks for the holidays. Do you love dogs? Put out some fliers to start walking your neighbor’s dogs.

5) House or Pet Sit over Thanksgiving. Many people go out of town for Thanksgiving and they hate knowing that their house is just sitting there. Solicit your services to watch their house or pet. You can also water their plans and take in their mail.

6) Start Blog Writing Online. It will take too long to start making any money from starting your own blog. Christmas will have come and gone long before you earn a few bucks. Instead, start writing for someone else’s blog. Check out Problogger Job Board for tons of different paid blog writing jobs. Pick a subject that you are passionate about.

7) Perform a Research Study. I know, you don’t want to be a lab rat, but if you live near a research university or hospital, they might have chances to make $500 to $2,000 participating in a study. I did three studies when I was in college, and I made a total of $1,900 doing them! I am still here, and I haven’t grown a third arm yet.

8) Make Crafts for Sale. Christmas time is the peak season for all things involved with crafts. If you are crafty, then start making Christmas ornaments, embroidered kitchen towels, wall hangings, door decorations, and anything else you can think of. You don’t even have to purchase a booth at a local fair or craft expo you can sell your items online at Etsy.com.

Make Extra Money

9 Ways to Make Extra Money for the Holidays

You can earn an extra $50 when you sign up for a TradeKing account or a ShareBuilder account and make a trade by the end of the month. They give you $50 for trying out their service, although it won’t cover your whole gift budget it should be enough to pay for at least one present.

There are a tons of different ways to make money, but it takes some effort on your part. All you need is a little bit of drive and creativity to earn extra money. Do you have any other ideas to share with everyone? If so, I’d love to hear your ideas!

9 Best Summer Jobs for 13 Year Olds

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

Hiya Teens!

Summer is here! So how are you going to make some extra cash now that you have more free time? Check out these quick jobs for 13 year olds to make money online in your spare time….

Here are 9 best summer jobs for 13 year Olds:

1) 1. Mother’s helper: Being a mother’s helper is good for those who like to help with family chores, housekeeping and/or babysitting.

Working Mom’s may have a hard time deciding what to do with their “tween” who considers themselves too old for a sitter. You can be the older friend to the tween and if you charge less than professional sitters, you could make a new friend and get paid for it.

You might offer light housekeeping duties, in the way of washing dishes, sweeping up and earn more.

• Start asking family members and friends first. Ask your teachers, guidance counselor, church minister for referrals. Check local newspapers too.

2) Lawn care: Most people are tired out on weekends and the last thing they want to do is mow their own lawns. Make up your own business cards using the computer and deliver them around to as many places within your neighborhood that you can reasonably take on.

Lawn services include mowing, weeding, raking and watering flowers is a great way to earn some money.

• If you can use your family lawn mower and tools, and deduct the cost of gas, you are in business!

3) Pet services: Most working families need someone to walk and groom their dog. It is expensive to place them in doggy daycare.

Find out how much doggy daycare services cost in your area. Then talk to pet owners informing them how they could save money by letting you take over.

The pet would not have to be transported every day, freeing up the owner’s time, and Fido could stay in his own home.

• ask to place your business cards or a flyer at veterinarian offices, pet shelters and pet stores.

4) Growing a garden: If you have a backyard with enough room, you can plant a garden.

Of course, you do not get rewarded until harvest time. However, selling fresh vegetables and delivering them to neighbors will pay enough to compensate you for your work.

All you need is seeds, water, fertilizer and a willingness to look after it.

• Never gardened before? Go online and do a search and/or talk to your local garden/nursery center folks.

Keep an eye on what the supermarkets are charging for their vegetables and undercut the price just a little.

Plus, you should charge a small delivery fee to make even more profits! Not to mention be convenient for your customer.

5) Tutoring: Are you good at any particular school subjects? Why not put that skill to work for you. Advertise for grammar school kids who need extra lessons in the summer to help get them ready for high school.

• Place an ad in a school paper, if allowed. Create flyers with full information. Ask friends for referrals.

Set a reasonable price per hour and make sure to keep track of how many hours you put in. Word gets around fast. If you make progress with a student, the parents may recommend you for further work.

6) Car wash: Visit a few car wash centers and find out how much they charge for their services.

You can tell potential clients you will do just as great a job of cleaning their car, (inside and out, if they wish) and keep your price a little lower. You do not need to invest much to get started.

• Once you have clients, go to a few hardware stores, or even a Walmart and get car cleaning items. Compare prices.

7) Yard sale: This job could be very interesting. First (with parental permission) hold your own yard sale.

Go through your house and garage for items no one no longer wants or uses and set up your own yard sale.

Afterwards, go through your neighborhood offering to sit and sell items the householder no longer wants. Split the profit. You can arrange the set up.

• This may work out better for older neighbors who can’t do as much as they would like to. You can do the lifting etc.

8) Saturday movies: Do you have a lot of movies? Get permission from your parents to turn your living room into a movie theatre on Saturday afternoons.

Be responsible for all clean up. Charge less than a fee the theatre charges, make and sell popcorn, cookies and lemonade and this could turn into a weekly event.

• Only invite 4 or 5 kids at a time, and offer to pick up and bring home younger ones. Have an age limit. Only those old enough to enjoy the movie should be invited.

9) Senior services: Many senior citizens can not do as much for themselves as they would like. Here they made need odd little jobs done, or running errands or windows need washing.

You could even offer to grocery shop for a negotiated price. They may want their pet walked, car cleaned too. Price by the job.

• Almost every town and city has a senior citizen’s group where they socialize. Visit the center and talk to them. Usually they are friendly and could use a little help around their homes.

Have fun and start making some cash with these best summer jobs for 13 year olds!

5 Tips To Start Your Own Babysitting Service

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Hiya teens,

So you want a babysitting jobs for 13 year olds this summer to make some extra cash? Check out these quick jobs for 13 year olds to make money online in your spare time….

Great! Babysitting is one of the most popular way for 13 year olds to make money. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

Here’s 5 Tips to Get Your Babysitting Service Off the Ground:

1) Impress parents by being CPR certified

Think safety. Your #1 job as the babysitter is to keep the kids safe. So it’s important to take an American Red Cross babysitting course http://www.redcross.org. You can also get CPR certified.

Parents will be impressed and appreciate the fact that you’ll know how to respond in an emergency.

2) Keep a calendar

Put together a calendar so that you can schedule your babysitting jobs.

The last thing you want to do is forget to show up for a babysitting job!

Also, keep a list of important numbers like the Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222. It can be called 24 hours a day no matter where you live.

Also, have phone numbers to the police and fire departments. You’ll also want a sheet where you’ll fill in the information about the people you’re babysitting for. List their names, where they’ll be, how they can be reached, and an alternate emergency phone number to call just in case they can’t be reached.

You never know when their cell phone may be in a non-service area. It doesn’t hurt to also put the names of the kids on the family sheet to aid your memory.

3) Get letters of recommendation

When you’ve babysat for someone a few times and they know how good of a job you do, ask them to write you a letter of recommendation, or a reference letter.

This will put other parents’ minds at ease. Also, ask them for names of their friends who might need a babysitter.

4) Plan Games & Activities Ahead of Time

Children behave best when they’re busy. So have a list of age appropriate games and activities or crafts ready on hand.

You could even bring along board games like checkers, backgammon, or Candyland.

Another fun activity is to bake chocolate chip cookies. I’ve never met a child who doesn’t like cookies!

Parents will appreciate you not parking them in front of the TV the whole time or playing internet/video games.

5) Keep building your resume.

Begin now, even if there’s not much to put on it. Your name, address, phone number, skills, interests, what type of jobs you’re looking for, clubs and activities you’ve done in school, any volunteer work, babysitting jobs, and at the bottom you can state ‘references available upon request’ (if you have them).

Make copies so that you have them available if needed. You’ll be building and changing your resume for your entire working career.

Good luck building a profitable babysitting service in your neighborhood!

3 Recession Proof Online Jobs for 13 Year Olds

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Happy Wednesday teens!

I don’t know about where you live…but here in River Falls we are having a beautiful May!

Should 13 year olds start their own online business?  Absolutely!

The economy is still struggling, businesses are cutting back on hiring, and as more people are losing their jobs, there is fierce competition for the few jobs that are available.

Sounds like the PERFECT time to check out these quick online jobs for 13 year olds

Did you know that more millionaires are made starting up a business online than all the Fortune 500 companies combined?!

That’s because the internet is the wave of the future.  And even more profitable is the mobile or cell phone internet.  Check out this quick job to make money online in your spare time here…

Experts are predicting that by 2015, everyone will be using their smart phone to access the internet instead of the “old fashioned” regular internet.

So make sure any online business you start is mobile optimized so customers can find and buy from you!

All of us (well almost!) use the internet on a daily basis to buy goods and services.  And savvy13 year olds can cash in on this trend.

The best part about starting a business online is that there is NO AGE limit!  You can be six years old and still make money.

Here are the TOP 3 Recession Proof Online Jobs for 13 Year Olds to Start NOW:

1) Like to play video games?

Americans purchased $21.33 billion worth of video game systems, software, and accessories in 2008 with hardware sales climbing in December to $1.88 billion.  It seems that Americans like to “escape” from reality and find time to play.

One recession proof business you can start is a virtual video games sales store.  Focus on the used game sales market as buyers are still looking for a good deal - especially during a recession.

2) Need a date?

People are always looking for love – and teens are no different – especially in a recession! In 2008, users spent $1.18 billion on online dating services. And this is expected to grow to $1.65 billion by 2012.

Starting a dating site isn’t too complicated these days – you can purchase off-the-shelf software to create your own. A lot of the expected growth will happen in niche topics (such as Christian, Jewish, doctors).  Why not start a niche dating site for high school teens or college kids?

3) Sports Equipment Consignment Shop

Despite a recession, kids still participate in sports. Now is the perfect time to start a virtual consignment sports shop - sell slightly used football cleats, running shoes, baseball gloves, jerseys, etc. People are always looking for a good deal and a sports consignment shop provides an opportunity for people to sell their often slightly used gear, and for you to minimize risk by taking it on consignment. You take a portion of the sale and pay when the product moves.

Have a great day and get started building your online business in your spare time!
